Chief Obenengu William
Chairman

Re-establishing our presence and strengthening our community bonds.

Our Story
The Kumba Chapter of NGEXA has been existing for a long time until the crisis came and it was suspended for some time.

To enable the branch to take off again, the National Executive appointed Chief Obenengu as the interim chairperson to run the affairs of the chapter pending elections.
  1. February 2024 -The present executive headed by Chief Obenengu was voted into office.
  2. August 2025 - Decision taken to rotate meetings in members' houses to encourage solid membership.

Current Status

Kumba being the closest town to Nguti has several ex-students from Nguti who for diverse reasons are not yet interested to join, but we are trying to get them to see reason to belong.

Due to the busy schedule of members, we reduced the frequency of meetings to once a month (every first Wednesday) with a small Njangi of 15,000frs per member.

Our Activities

The aim of our Njangi is to act as a unifying force and to bind members by always reminding them to attend because there is a saying in our local parlance that "Njangi money na for table".
Our initial meeting point was the Amusement Park in Kumba, but from August 2025, we've been rotating meetings in members' houses to encourage:
Responsibilities
  • Solid membership
  • Dignified meeting points
  • Encouraging fence-sitters to join

We are looking forward to creating a sinking fund which will act as an empowerment scheme for any envisaged projects.

Traditions & Future Plans

At every sitting, we have a slot to recall our memories of the time spent in Nguti, including the dancing styles we exhibited in Rita Heaven and Sabado bars.

While playing the Njangi, there is a token set aside by every member to take care of the refreshment for that day.

It's now becoming a tradition that any member who has recorded any achievement in the family circle (child's academic success, promotion, etc.) gives a double round of drinks willingly.

We are also thinking of coming out with a uniform for the chapter to help easily identify us and act as a growth strategy.

All of this is to encourage growth, solidarity, and love among members and would-be members.
